Materials Science: Dictionaries

The port to scientific electronic resources (e.g. e-journals, e-books, databases) on materials science


Dictionaries can be either descriptive or translation dictionaries. The Library also has several specialized dictionaries focused on a particular field. Translations can be found in MOT Dictionaries or RedFox Online Services.

Printed language-specific dictionaries can be found in shelf class P 8, and these can be checked out.

Reference works

Reference works can be multidiciplinary or subject-specific: encyclopedias and handbooks act as systematic introductions to a particular field or topic, and they tend to contain concise basic information. See/search  more subject-specific reference work on Books-section.(tähän linkki)

The Library also has some printed reference books and handbooks. Printed reference works are located in the ground floor of the Library. Search your subject´s shelfs from the alphabetical subject listing. These reference books can be borrowed


A thesaurus is a controlled vocabulary that gathers and connects related concepts. For example, Finto is a Finnish thesaurus and ontology service with multiple subject-specific vocabularies.

The Library also has some printed vocabularies and thesauri. Printed reference works are located in the ground floor of the Library (shelf classification beginning with "P Ref G 038 Thesaurus"). These reference books cannot be borrowed
